Appetite for….Art?

or, Artful Dining

Have an appetite, hungry, thirsty? Starved for eye candy? Well. Feast your eyes and satisfy your food gluttony and craving for art, all in one delicious destination. No need to drive all over town in search of such fulfillment. There is only one place you can conciliate all of the above. The one stop and one place for such regalement is the Noche Cocina Y Bar.

So here’s how it works.  Let’s say you’re hungry, hungry for Mexican food. Let’s say you’re thirsty, thirsty for a killer Margarita.  Done. Dig into any of the delicious concoctions the likes of Chicken Pibil (a specialty from kitchens of Papantia in Veracruz Province) or Blackened Pollo with two sauces, a taste of New Orleans blended with Old Mexico.  Or Shrimp Mojo deAjo, little cafes along the beaches of the Mexican Gulf Coast are known for this dish.  Or if the other house specialties such as Cabrito Empanada appetizer, Cabrito entre, Quail ala Parrilla or Little Noche Boat amongst others, still don’t excite you (picky, aren’t we?), then Chef Eleazar Luna would be tickled pickled jalapeno green to prepare something just for you.  There is even a note printed on the menu; Challenge Our Chef ! He gladly takes special food requests. So challenge him Darling, and get whatever your little heart and taste buds desire.

An important note to the healthy eaters, weight conscious, and fat-fighters everywhere, this restaurant is one of the few if any, of the Mexican fare, that also offers baked chips and grilled vegetables.  In fact, Chef Luna will personally work with you to prepare a dish that is dietetic, delicious and delectable. Thus, absolved of this guilt portion of your life, you may proceed and indulge with the portions on your plate or at the bar, (more about the Margaritas later).

The present, new and improved owner Harry Bishop describes Noche as a restaurant of authentic Mexican cuisine, focusing on recipes from Southern Mexico. His cooks came from Southern Mexico and Pueblo and brought their own culinary secrets with them, such as Pollo Acapulco and to die for Tortilla soup, home made daily, tortillas, salsa and deserts.  It’s like having Mama cooking your favorite dish just for you.

Harry’s philosophy is simple.  Give the people what they want and don’t charge them so much, so when the check arrives they have to be resuscitated from shock. Ahh! but clever Harry goes beyond providing you with just food for your gluttonous side. He also gives you food for thought, food for the eyes, and for that matter, food for the ears.  Now! That’s what I call an all- purpose dinning experience. Harry retains an art/music consultant who hunts for new sources and forms of visual art.  She searches galleries, checks out individuals, established and new artists, and having made her selections, the paintings are displayed throughout the restaurant.  And not to bore you with having to look at the same creation forever, the art is varied every 60 to 90 days or as necessary, as most of the objects are available for sale. And yes, sales having been rather brisk, so expect not to expect to see what you thought you were expecting to see.  Comprende ?

The aforementioned consultant also scours the land for musical talent. And that my dears, translates into fabulous live music entertainment. As taste is everything in a restaurant business, Harry aims to satisfy all your musical tastes as well. The entertainment is varied, from jazz to hot tropical sounds to soothing tunes and melodies. All designed to provide a pleasant background to complement the meal, the occasion and, a conversation without having to strain to hear or scream to be heard. One wouldn’t want to bellow the juicy gossip or secrets, would one?

OK, now you’ve been enticed by fabulous food, walls of artistic visions and music to your ears, what else is left you ask.  Plenty, I answer. Want to schmoose? Celebrity gaze? See the famous and the infamous? See the scene behind the scenes? Ogle the ostentatious and stare at the stars? Then on Wednesdays, get your happy self to the restaurant, for it is Media Night at Noche. This is when all sorts of media and political characters gather to munch-out, chit-chat and no doubt, imbibe. Expect to run into television and radio personalities, printed media moguls, politicos and sports figures. Wouldn’t you love to rub elbows, get up close and personal or just people watch Houston’s elite of the knowns and the visibles.

Now, you tell me, is this restaurant just too too hot hot hot? And as if all of the above staples and perks were not enough, add to it a fabulous large outdoor patio (for your al fresco pleasures), tons of very convenient parking and of course Monday through Friday Happy Hour 5:00 to 7:00, oh! Did I mention Sunday Brunch Buffet (beginning at 10:00 am)?

And here is the coup de grass, the big enchilada, the grand of the grandest, the ultimate, my newbestfriend, Margarita.  People, I am talking a salty and sassy, the supreme, the extreme Margarita, the likes of which you have never tasted.  Why it’s the best thing you had in your mouth since……I better not go there.  This is the Presidential Margarita, a house specialty, made with premium tequila and Presidente Brandy, prepared in a special shaker. I want you to have one of those decadent concoctions, so I’m willing to make you a DEAL. Mention that you read this on the SocietySpy.com website and you will receive one of those shakers with my compliments (you still have to pay for the Margarita however) Yes, your very own shaker. Now you can be a bona fide mover and shaker in every sense of the word.

Whew! I’m exhausted from all this boasting and bragging on Noche restaurant. Think I’ll pop over there, have a Margarita, gobble down a nacho or dozen and chill.

Adios!

AND…..COMING SOON!!!!

And, coming soon, Harry’s Corner.  In this corner, Harry, the owner will keep you posted on forthcoming attractions.  Who will be the entertainment in weeks to come, what special specials will be available, what events he has up his sleeve, wine tastings, you name it.  There may even be a special recipe he is willing to leave his kitchen.  Of course this is also the spot where you can leave your comments, suggestions, opinions (and especially praises), however constructive criticism is welcomed. Please forward such to societyspy@societyspy.com. And don’t forget to check in regularly to see who was seen there, dining, drinking, dallying and doing what to whom.

Welcome to Harry's Corner

Here's more new and exiting news from Harry's Corner. Harry's fabulous and ever so popular Noche Cocina Y Bar is rocking, rolling and cooking, although to a different tune in more ways than one. Never to be said that this hip happening dining spot is dull, boring nor that it is resting on its jalapeno laurels. So what's new, fun and exciting at Noche you ask! Plenty.

Since Houston's PhotoFest festival is over, so is the exhibit of photos from Noche's walls. But, fear not, all you art starved diners, for the walls at Noche are filled with new and exciting eye-popping paintings. Look up from your platter of enchiladas, feast you eyes on the art and wash it all down with a Preidente Margarita. At Noche life is good, life is tasty, life is fun.

And speaking of fun, pity if you missed the colossal birthday party for the well- known musician and entertainer Harry Shepherd. The boy turned seventy four years old and still going strong, entertaining and amusing his audiences and fans everywhere. The turnout for the celebration was huge as Harry's guests and Noche's patrons munched on complementary Noche buffet, imbibed on Margaritas and partied on the patio into the wee hours. Fun fun to say the least.

And there is more fun being planned at Noche. With Mother's Day around the corner (you know it is May 12th, don't you?) Noche is offering the most delicious and delectable Mother's Day brunch. Dine on a magnificent brunch buffet or enjoy Noche's specialties from the menu. You can also dine al fresco, enjoying the large outdoor patio, with all the foliage and a bubbling fountain. Guarantied to make you mama happy, pampered and appreciated. For your convenience, Noche will begin serving you and your family at 10:00 am. Come early and stay late.

Noche is also your headquarters for the Cinco de Mayo celebration. What a perfect spot to commemorate and observe this holiday, and a little partying on top of that wouldn't hurt either. On Sunday, May 5th expect fabulous food, libations and of course live entertainment provided by Mark Towns and Yelva duo. The festivities begin at 5:00 PM with complimentary hors d'oeuvres until 8:00 PM. So, what a better way to spend a Sunday evening than to celebrate Cinco de Mayo, partake in delicious Noche's fare, groove to live tunes and cool off with a killer margarita. So, as they say, la vida es buena and celebra y el partido!!!! ( translation; life is good, celebrate and party!!!)

Now, just as you didn't think things could not get any better at Noche, hold on, because they did. Noche was ever so lucky and fortunate as to bring three new fabulous people to join it's already fabulous staff. These guys, or I should say two girls and a guy are a restaurant's and patrons' dream come true. First, they're cute, two, they know what they are doing and three, their sole purpose for living is to make sure that you are treated as kings and queens, as the case might be. Learn their faces and names and let them cater to you and pamper you into oblivion. Presenting Miss Audra Grammer.

This pretty, witty, blond and bewitching bartender (or is it Bartendress) will serve you a cold beer, mix you an awesome cocktail or anything else your thirsty heart desires. Before you even make your way to the bar, you will be greeted by the prettiest and most charming hostess, Miss Anna Marie Tripi.

This cutie will make sure you are promptly seated, have the perfect table and ready to begin your Noche experience. And now that you have been escorted to your table awaits the real treat. The treat is Edesel Davis.

I suppose you could call him a waiter, but the boy exceeds that classification by volumes. Not only is he expedient in his duties, he is also most attentive and a charmer to boot. Be assured that when you're seated at Edesel's table, the service will be impeccable, food will be brought to you promptly and your glass will never be empty, and all that with a smile.

So, there you have it. Fun, entertainment, outdoor dining, to die for food and libations and perfect service. What elsecould a country boy or girl ask for.

Stay tuned for future Harry's Corner tales and preview of coming Noche attractions.

Salute! And vealo en Noche

Recognize anyone? Maybe your own self? Maybe you wish you had not been seen? Well, darling, if you don't want to be seen nor recognized, don't go out, order in, brown bag it (horrors!) or there is always room service.
