Paella Polo
Festival POLO GOES PAELLA
Get ready for Sunday 21, 2000, for it promises to be an awesome way to finish off a weekend, and leave plenty to talk about for the week to come. The fab, fun and famous Houston Polo Club will host the very popular annual International Paella Festival. The festivities will include a tasty and tasteful combination of sport and Spanish food; polo and paella. Six chukkas of fast and furious polo and paella cooked by chefs from around the world, and music to set the heart a flame, and to wash all this excitement down with, fine Spanish and South American, half-time wine tasting during the divot stomp.
Now, for those of you (moi included) who sustain themselves with restaurant doggie-bags and 2-for-99 cents tacos from Jack in the Box, a paella is a famous and traditional dish of Spain and Latin America. It is based on rice combined with an endless variety of ingredients and is normally cooked outdoors. So much for the culinary lesson from me, who hasn't cooked a hot meal since 1982. To truly appreciate this delectable dish, you simply must attend and taste for yourself.
Three
peopleThis being a big time cook-off, professional and amateur teams will compete. Among those vying to be the top pan will be such culinary well -knowns as Jose Barragan, Café Toulouse, Eatzi's, Fernando Elizondo, Mi Luna, Solero, Tasca's, Sierra Grill, The Wine Brats, Jim Wood, Post Oak Grill, Rainbow Lodge, Barcelona, Richardo Perusquia, Alfonso Varella, Neiman-Marcus, Town&Country, Andrew Lear/Anuar Tajer, Bob Ferguson and more, (obviously, no weekend wiener BBQ cooks here).
No doubt, this promises to be a fun and fantastic Sunday, but this wouldn't be Houston, Texas, if while amusing and indulging ourselves, we would not be doing something worthwhile for others. This event will benefit CASA DE ESPERANZA DE LOS NINOS, Houston and THE MERCY FOUNDATION of TEXAS
