Feeling Horsy?........Want to Play?
Or how about classy, sassy and sophisticated ? If the answer to any of the above or any combination thereof is yes, do I have a deal for you. The name of the game is Polo, ladies and gentlemen, and it is one sporting/social event to see and be seen in. Do mark your calendars, because The Houston Polo Club announced the Spring 2000 Polo schedule for the 72nd Season at the club.

As always, the club will offer a "chukker"-full of activities to please and excite the young and old and in between. A perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon. It's ok to come by yourself, bring the family and even a few dogs have been spotted. No, I am not referring to some of the guests there attired in taste-questionable ensembles, which could have easily lead to that confusion. Speaking of appropriate dress. It's quite simple, really. Casual and comfortable will do. A word of caution to the term casual however. Casual, does not mean a pair of cut-offs, an old T-shirt, or anything else you would wear when washing your dog or hiding out in your house for two weeks while depressed and waiting for Prozac to kick in. Actually, the wonderful thing about attending Polo matches, is that anything goes (except the aforementioned of course). Use your flair and imagination. Ladies, try wearing a hat for a change, gentleman, pretend you're an Earl of something or other and do the country casual thing (the ladies love it).

Change of Focus
Kim Coffman, the ever popular and sought after social photographer, for whom, no doubt, you struck a pose at many of the social soirees, is for a change, an object of attention himself. Yes, this time, the focus, if you will is on him. The Rojas Gallery will present a photo exhibit by Kim Coffman, entitled My Favorite Roll of 1999, featuring Kim's photo recollection of his travels through Berlin, Prague and Budapest. When asked, how Kim realized his talent and passion for photography, he summarized his life as follows, and I quote: "I grew up on a pig farm. Was in the military. Came to Houston. Worked in the mortgage business. Took up photography for therapy. Got an MBA degree. Decided, I liked photography better than dealing with (can't print this word) in the mortgage business, and now, I'm a happy man!" end quote. Obviously, he does believe that, one picture paints a thousand words.

The reception for the artist will be held on March 30, 2000, beginning at 6:00 PM, with the exhibit to continue through May 30th. Note, the exhibit will benefit The Houston Food Bank and H.A.T.C.H.. For more scoop and info, call 713 521-2737.
